Accelerating the Development and Manufacturing of Biopharmaceuticals
Kyowa Kirin Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Masashi Miyamoto; hereinafter “Kyowa Kirin”) has decided to construct a new manufacturing plant in Sanford, North Carolina, marking the company’s first production facility in the North American region. With an investment of up to $530 million, construction is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2024; the facility will feature a total floor area of 15,951 square meters and house two bioreactors.
This project aims to accelerate the development and manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals by leveraging the new facility, thereby delivering valuable medicines more quickly to patients suffering from hard-to-treat diseases. Furthermore, the company intends to establish a flexible and efficient supply chain capable of adapting to global environmental changes, with plans to produce innovative biopharmaceuticals—such as next-generation antibodies—for use in future clinical trials and as commercial products.
